My Name Is khan is a 2010 Bollywood social drama film directed by Bollywood poster boy director Karan Johar, based on a script by himself and Shibani Bathija. The movie marked the reunion of Bollywood’s evergreen romantic hero- heroine combo with Shah Rukh Khan and Kajol, appearing alongside each other after a nine year gap in Johar’scult family drama flick KKKG IN 2001. The movie which spoke of the highly sensitive socio- political climate of our times from the perspectives of some Muslim people stranded in the US during the ever-disturbing 9/11 attacks.

My Name is Khan starts of by showing the troubled growing up of Rizwan Khan who suffers from Autism living in Mumbai with his mother and younger brother living in the US.  Rizwan Khan’s considered to be a normal person only by his ever loving mother and he is a especially able lad in the blocks.  However after his mother’s death his charge is reluctantly taken up by his younger brother along with his wife. There he goes on to meet a Muslim girl ( Kajol). The rest of the movie narrates the changes that happen in their peaceful life set against the 9/11 which prompt’s him to set out on a journey to meet the President of the US. The commencing climax and the whole journey is humanitarian in its perspectives. My Name Is Khan stood out for its bold subject matter and effective execution with rave reviews on Shah Rukh Khan’s interpretation of the character with utmost conviction. The movie rose to wide spread critical success and went to mark a positive change from Johar’s previous outings. The critics bestowed much praise on the story and the importance of the message the movie tried to make at the time. The movie also performed well  at the box office and the soundtrack by Shankar Ehsaan Loy trio coupled with Ravi K Chandran’s  exuberant cinematography added to the movie’s critical value.
