The actor Varun Dhawan opened up recently on the start of his career in Bollywood. Starting as Assistant Director to Karan Johar during the making of My Name Is Khan, that helped him learn the crafts of filmmaking. He worked behind the camera before he faced the camera.   During his appearance on The Great Indian Kapil Show’ Varun Dhawan revealed he was offered his debut film with ‘Student of the Year’ by Karan Johar which also marked the debut of Alia Bhatt and Sidharth Malhotra.  

He made a mention that Varun Dhawan had desired to understand filmmaking and learn the crafts of acting behind the camera which had led him to join Karan Johar as an Assistant Director for the film ‘My Name is Khan’. This opportunity has helped him understand the filmmaking, its creativity and the technicalities of cinema much before he had started his career in acting. 

Veteran Filmmaker David Dhawan revealed his son Varun was deeply focused on learning the crafts and whatever work that was given by Karan Johar then, he had done it sincerely without taking any shortcuts. That helped him execute tasks assigned to him from time to time and understand the filmmaking better. 

The Game changing point arrived 

Varun Dhawan’s career as a film actor started off with Karan Johar who approached his family and expressed his desire to cast fresh faces in his film Student of The Year and that he had Varun in his mind for the lead role.  KJO immediately had conducted the photoshoot featuring the trio, Varun Dhawan, Alia Bhatt and Sidharth Malhotra.  The trio had played a pivotal and crucial part in shaping his ambitious film. 

Karan Johar had come with lots of photographs clicked with Varun, Siddharth and Alia and he mentioned the pair and that he was going to produce and direct this film.  Varun Dhawan made a banging entry into the Bollywood film industry in 2012 with ‘Student of The Year’,  a coming-of-age drama that garnered popularity, positive reviews and had attracted young audience. 

Varun Dhawan was recently seen in Border 2 which also received positive reviews despite the serious and intense role he had. The film emerged as a box office.
