Marking a significant milestone in the film’s production, Director SS Rajamouli revealed an exciting production update on his much-awaited magnum opus Varanasi. 


Starring Mahesh Babu and Priyanka Chopra, the filmmaker spoke about it at the Annecy International Animation Film Festival whereby he also confirmed the movie would be a Grand IMAX.


Rajamouli revealed a major portion of the shoot that is now finished with the team that is currently filming smaller sequences that will bring the narrative together.   The acclaimed director is expecting to conclude the filming by September or latest by October this year 


The project is ambitious and will be in an IMAX Format 


The filmmaker confirmed the decision to shoot their ambitious project in an IMAX Format which was their original plan and not an afterthought.   He explained the large-scale action sequence which was conceived specifically for IMAX to deliver in an immersive cinematic experience without altering its storytelling, which will suit the format . 


Rajamouli has revealed that its going to be one of the biggest highlights in a breath taking 20-minute Ramayana inspired battle sequence. The visuals are towering and will have a massive scale demanding the IMAX experience to fully capture its grandeur.  


Scheduled for its theatrical release in April 2027, Varanasi is reportedly being mounted on a budget of 1000 crore. It will be one of the costliest Indian films ever produced following its global success of RRR and the Bahubali Franchise. The expectations are soaring sky high as Rajamouli once again aims to redefine Varanasi at the scale and spectacle in the Indian cinema with his ambitious all time epic.
