We come across several actors who enter Bollywood industry dreaming of becoming a star. However, only few manage to last and leave a mark in the competitive film industry.  One such actor is Perizaad Zorabian who has once shared the screen space with Amitabh Bachchan before she stepped away from the films after her marriage.  She now runs a business with an annual turnover of over Rs. 120 crore . She joined her family poultry business after she enjoyed a brief memorable career in Bollywood working alongside Amitabh Bachchan, Om Puri and Shabana Azmi


Perizaad Zorabian admitted she was an accidental actor.  


Perizaad revealed that she always wanted to become an entrepreneur since the age of eight when she got to understand the word itself. After completing her graduation, she moved to New York to pursue an MBA.  In New York she got introduced to Lee Strasberg Theatre & Film Institute after she discovered a friend of hers was studying there.  Inspired by her friend’s experience she enrolled herself too in the institute and spent one year studying acting. 


Her father supported her decision to explore performing arts but she eventually returned to India and joined the family’s Zorabian Chicken business.  A name known  father fully supported her decision to explore the performing arts, Perizaad eventually returned to India and joined her family's business, Zorabian Chicken. 


She was spotted by a modelling coordinator at a family gathering and she landed her first commercial Fair & Lovely.  Soon she had directors calling and she got her first debut film directed by Nagesh Kukunoor. The film starred Om Puri.  Perizaad had to balance her life between acting and her responsibilities towards her family-owned business.  


She became a household name and much loved in the film Joggers Park, and then in Mumbai Matinee, Morning Raga to name a few.  Her father than had asked her to choose between acting and the family business and she chose films then, after which she appeared with Amitabh Bachchan in Ek Ajnabee and also was a part of the popular television show Hum Pardesi Ho Gaye


She married the businessman Boman Irani at the age of 33 and then stepped away from Bollywood with conscious decision. During the period she revealed she had also welcomed her first child and had decided to focus on her family and the family business and hence turned down several films offers. 


Perizaad scaled up Zorabian Chicken. How did she do that ? 


Zorabian Chicken is a premium Indian poultry brand known for its name and founded in 1983. The family-owned business is operated out of 150 acre farms in Khapoli and is currently managed by the actress Perizaad Zoraian.




Perizaad revealed she was finding it difficult to manage both , her acting career and her father’s business. She decided to return and help to revive the family business .  She went on to work towards its growth and now has the annual turnover of Rs. 120 crore.  Her company has employed 700 people and she believes in leading her company with love and passion.  


She left films and decided to take the plunge to become the entrepreneur and dedicate herself to the family business. She had joined the Zorabian Chicken business when they were in heavy debts and the business was on decline. Perizaad with her strategic planning and diversification transformed the wholesale company into diversified brands with retail that had a high growth segment with its plan on the fast moving ready to cook verticals.  She took this step to stand out in the very competitive market and consciously distinguished the Zorabian Chicken from mass producers and positioned it as ‘ Nice Niche Artisanal Boutique Brand’ 


Her daughter Zaha is a graduate from Dhirubhai Ambani International School. They have a son named Zayaan.


She distinguishes her company and calls it ‘a nice niche artisanal boutique brand.
