Girija Oak is a versatile actress who carved herself a prominent niche across Hindi and Marathi cinema, television and theatre. She is known for her natural performance and her expressive screen presence won her many roles and she had a successful balance between the commercial blockbusters and critically acclaimed independent projects as well.
Girija Oak’s career in films started with her debut at the young age of 15 in the Marathi film Manini released in 2004. Her national breakthrough came with the 2007, film Taare Zameen Par with Aamir Khan in a supporting role where she played the role of empathetic teacher Jabeen. Following her success, Girija became a household name in the Marathi household after the success of her role in Zee Marathi serial Lajja where she portrayed the victim with scandal fighting for justice. Her emotional and matured performance was widely praised.
In 2009 Girija Oak delivered a powerful performance in the lead role alongside Milind Gawali her co-star. A deeply sensitive and significant film on social issue of Female Feticide directed by Raj Israni, produced by Israni Entertainment banner. Their main aim was to educate and advocate the rights for the girl child and towards the cause of female feticide.
