Girija Oak

a degree in Biotechnology from Thakur College of Science and Commerce in Mumbai. She later inherited the passion for the professional acting and performance and eventually joined the theatre workshops wherein she paved her way for her acting debut.

Girija Oak is a versatile actress who carved herself a prominent niche across Hindi and Marathi cinema, television and theatre. She is known for her natural performance and her expressive screen presence won her many roles and she had a successful balance between the commercial blockbusters and critically acclaimed independent projects as well. 

Girija Oak’s career in films started with her debut at the young age of 15 in the Marathi film Manini released in 2004. Her national breakthrough came with the 2007, film Taare Zameen Par with Aamir Khan in a supporting role where she played the role of empathetic teacher Jabeen. Following her success, Girija became a household name in the Marathi household after the success of her role in Zee Marathi serial Lajja where she portrayed the victim with scandal fighting for justice. Her emotional and matured performance was widely praised.

In 2009 Girija Oak delivered a powerful performance in the lead role alongside Milind Gawali her co-star. A deeply sensitive and significant film on social issue of Female Feticide directed by Raj Israni, produced by Israni Entertainment banner. Their main aim was to educate and advocate the rights for the girl child and towards the cause of female feticide. 

Girija played the pivotal character of Arti who becomes pregnant and the story delves in a harrowing pressure from her in-law for a male heir. Milind Gawali who essayed her husband’s role in the film is the supportive figure fighting along with her. Girija Oak was highly praised for her vulnerability as well her ability to convey the strength of a mother who is caught between the moral cultural and social conflict. 

Both Taare Zameen Par and Chingi solidified Girija’s reputation in the film industry especially in the Marathi cinema as an actress who is capable of handling complex and socially driven roles with the highest maturity and grace.

Girija’s Marathi films were Goshta Choti Dongraevadhi in 2009, Gulmohar in 2009 with Sonali Kulkarni and Huppa Huiyaa with Siddharth Jadav in the lead in 2010 release.

Beyond her debut in the Hindi film Taare Zameen Par, Girija earned praises for her role as Sejal in the gritty Drama Shor in the City in 2011.

In 2023, a turning point in her career with Shah Rukh Khan in the film Jawan where she essayed the powerful role of female commando in Shah Rukh Khan’s team.

She then appeared in The Vaccine War by Vivek Agnihotri in 2023 and since then has been active in OTT projects like Modern Love: Mumbai, Qala and Cartel.

Girija Oak won the Best Actress Award at the European Cinematography Awards and was nominated for Maveric Movie Awards for showcasing her talent and being recognized on the international stage.

In 2025, Girija Oak was recognized as a National Crush following her recent acting projects and her viral interviews last year. Known for playing both innocent and complex roles across various medias, Girija essayed the role of Inspector Zende’s wife, essayed by Manoj Bajpayee in the Inspector Zende Series released on Netflix in 2025.
