Shruti has played the leading lady in many commercially successful films in Tamil, such as Vedalam and Si3. In Hindi films, she acted in the film Gabbar is Back in 2015, Welcome Back in 2015 and in D-Day released in 2013, for which she was nominated for the IIFA Award for Best Supporting Actress.

Shruti featured in the promotional music video for the horror film Hiss starring Mallika Sherawat and she sang songs composed by Dave Kushner. 

Shruti Haasan made her debut in a Telugu film in 2011 with Anagana O Dheerude. The film is co-produced by Walt Disney Pictures in which she acted as a gypsy with magic healing powers. She then featured in the romantic film Dil Toh Baccha Hai Ji directed by Madhur Bhandarkar in which she had a guest appearance alongside Emraan Hashmi.

In 2010 she signed a film by AR Murgadoss called 7 Aum Arivu. Her role was that of a young scientist . Shruti’s next film was Oh My Friend, a romantic comedy film released in Telugu language. 

She further got a breakthrough in 2012. Aishwarya Rajnikanth’s Tamil directorial film debut 3, starring along with the co-star Dhanush and Aishwarya Rajnikanth. The film collaborated with her and Aishwarya Rajnikant garnered a lot of positive response as both are daughters of the two leading contemporary Tamil actors.

She also appeared in Rocky Handsome opposite John Abraham in 2016 and in the Telugu film Premam opposite Naga Chaitanya which was a remake of the Malayalam film with the same name. She has also sung Hindi songs such as Aazma for Luck, Alvida for D-Day and Joganiyan for Tevar. 

She is also a music director with her father Kamal Haasan’s production house. She won the Best Music Ward for Unnaipol Oruvan at the Edison Awards. 

Some of her most notable songs are Adiye Kolluthe, Yellae Lama, Down Down, Don’t you Mess with Me, Odiyamma from Hi Nanna, It’s a Break Up Da and her most recent is her song, Vinveli Nayaga from her father’s produced film Thug Life.
