Directed by Puri Jagannadh “Badri” is a romantic action film in Telugu cinema. Starring Pawan Kalyan, Renu Desai and Amisha Patel. At its core, the story follows our heroine Vennela who blames hero Badri for never loving her, and as is often the case in this sort of movie challenges him by asserting that nobody will ever love him like she does. When Sarayu enters the picture, everything changes. Most importantly, Sarayu makes Badri experience the kind of passion he’s never experienced in all his life.
The story of Badri follows a confident, handsome director of an ad agency whose life is turned upside down when his fiancé, Vennela, challenges his conception of love. Believing that no woman will ever love him as unconditionally as she does, Vennela forces Badri into an emotional gauntlet, demanding that he win the affection of another woman. She notices a gorgeous, sultry, seemingly perfect girl named Sarayu and challenges him to get her to fall in love with him. What begins as a playful, idiot-proof little bet soon develops into something entirely different, as Sarayu, lured by Badri’s charms and pure-hearted energy, starts to fall in love with him.
Just when the emotional stakes couldn’t get higher, Sarayu’s overbearing older brother, Nanda, comes on the scene, determined to stop Badri from ever visiting his sister. Knowing that Vennela is already pursuing Badri, Nanda recognizes him as a potential threat to Sarayu’s future happiness and decides he needs to do whatever it takes to shield her from harm. Badri is torn between loyalty and desire, only to discover that he’s truly in love with Sarayu. In a touching twist, both Vennela and Nanda realise that all along, Badri loved Sarayu, and the film ends on a loving note where love ultimately prevails. Badri eventually gets back together with Sarayu with everybody’s blessings.
“Badri” is an important illustration of this tradition mixed with a thrilling romance, ultimately keeping the viewer on the edge of their seat emotionally. Through its charismatic script, briskly paced action scenes, and emotion-fueled score, it walks the tightrope between bombast and beauty. It’s a delightful film for anyone who loves a good underdog story with a soul.
