5 Weddings is a film set in the United States and in India directed by Namrata Singh Gujral and features Rajkummar Rao, Nargis Fakhri, Bo Derek, Candy Clark, Anneliese Van der Pol and Suvinder Vicky. The film released in 2018 is about an American journalist who travels to India for a magazine feature on the multiple wedding ceremonies.
The film deals not just about the weddings but also on the community of trangenders who are called Hijra community and are specially called to dance at the Indian weddings.
The film had to go through censor boards as it tells a story of India’s transgender community. A typical comedy film with a social issue with a message and moral.
In the film Shania essayed by Nargis Fakhri is an American reporter who is sent on a mission to cover the glamour weddings in India and comes across the transgender. Rajkummar Rao plays the role of a police inspector who chaperones her . The film is more like a documentary with a few romantic scenes. The key story to bring out in the film is that transgender are soul of a woman in a man’s body.
