Aadujeevitham The Goat Life

The Goat Life, also known as Aadujeevitham: The Goat Life (2024), is a biographical survival film by director Blessy from Malayalam cinema. It features Prithviraj Sukumaran, Jimmy Jean-Louis, Amala Paul, Shobha Mohan and K. R. Gokul. Najeeb Muhammed is a Malayali immigrant whose dream of a better life in Saudi Arabia turns into a terrifying fight for survival in the desert. It is based on a true story and tells the story of his journey through loneliness, pain, and finally, strength and return.

Najeeb Muhammed and Hakim, two men from Kerala, travel to Saudi Arabia hoping for better jobs and a brighter future. Their visas are arranged by an acquaintance named Sreekumar, but when they land, no one comes to pick them up. A man from the area thinks Najeeb is his worker and takes him away, leaving Hakim behind. Najeeb is forced to live alone in the harsh desert, taking care of goats with almost no food, water, or shelter. Time passes slowly, and Najeeb sees another worker die, making him realise how dangerous his life is.

After years of suffering, Najeeb meets Hakim again. Hakim introduces him to Ibrahim Khadiri, a Somali worker who knows how to escape. They endure severe thirst and hunger as they walk through the desert for days. Unfortunately, Hakim passes away while travelling, and Khadiri vanishes shortly after. A good-hearted Arab man eventually saves Najeeb, who is alone, and on the verge of death. A fellow Malayali named Kunjikka takes him to his restaurant and aids in his recuperation. However, Najeeb's visa issues later led to his arrest. After a lot of hardships and heartaches, he eventually makes it home alive but with significant changes.

One of the few films that has an impact long after the credits have rolled is The Goat Life. It is more than just a film, it is a lived experience that has been authentically and deeply crafted. It took 16 years to make and every frame reflects the patience and hard work that went into it. Because of the response from viewers, it is currently the second-highest-grossing Malayalam film of 2024 and the fifth-highest-grossing Malayalam film overall.
