"Anjaan" is a 2014 Tamil action thriller film directed and written by N. Lingusamy. Starring Suriya, Samantha Ruth Prabhu, and Vidyut Jammwal, the film is about a man who goes to Mumbai to find his missing brother but discovers an underworld deadliest past and shocking realities.
Krishna (Suriya), a handicapped man, comes to Mumbai to search for his missing brother, Raju. He finds out from Rajiv (Asif Basra), Raju's friend, that Raju, alias Raju Bhai, was a notorious gangster. Flashbacks of Raju's close relationship with fellow gangster Chandru (Vidyut Jammwal) and their ascension in the Mumbai underworld, aided by their guru Karim Bhai (Joe Malloori), are shown. Raju becomes infatuated with Jeeva (Samantha), daughter of the police commissioner, whom he kidnapped once to assist his gang. Things get out of hand when crime lord Imran Bhai (Manoj Bajpayee) shows disrespect to them. Subsequently, Chandru is brutally murdered, and Raju is betrayed by his own gang member Amar, who shoots him and dumps him in the sea.
In the current timeline, Amar tries to kill Krishna, but the big surprise occurs when Krishna turns out to be Raju disguised. Raju impersonates to get revenge against the people who betrayed him. He tracks down Johnny, Manoj, and other accomplices to Chandru's murder. With Karim's help, Raju finds that Imran is the real brain behind the entire conspiracy. Imran kidnaps Jeeva, disguising himself as Karim's daughter, to lure Raju. In the final confrontation, Raju rescues Jeeva, kills Imran, and wraps up his long journey of vengeance. He turns a page on his previous life as Raju Bhai and walks away, reunited with his love.
"Anjaan" is a stylish action film packed with turns, emotional flashbacks, and high-octane fights. Suriya is a master in doing double roles, especially the intense transformation from peace-loving Krishna to ferocious Raju Bhai. While the character takes turns in drama scenes, it charges mass elements with emotional elements, making it a pleasure for action fans and Suriya enthusiasts.
