Both Anirudhan (Mammootty) and Sugumaran (Mohanlal), roommates, work as executives for pharmaceutical firms. Anirudhan is more of a son of the soil type, but Sugumaran is urbane and has a slightly western attitude. Sugumaran falls in love with Sujatha (Shobana), Anirudhan's sister, while visiting his village. Anirudhan also develops feelings for Neelima (Anitha), Sugumaran's sister. Following their marriage, the two spouses must deal with the effects of their interclass union.
