Bagavathi runs a tea shop with the help of his loyal employee Vadivelu and lives a quiet life with his beloved younger brother, Guna. When Bagavathi finally meets Anjali, her initial admiration for his kindness slowly develops into love. At the same time, Guna is having a clandestine affair with Priya, but their romance is bitterly opposed by her rich and proud dad, Easwarapandiyan. Even after Bagavathi makes his humble protests seeking the man’s approval to marry his daughter, he is further humiliated. In retaliation, Easwarapandiyan brutally murders both Guna and Bagavathi’s ally Anand, who tries to shield them from their fate. Defiant, Guna tries to marry Priya with Bagavathi’s backing.
Devastated by his brother’s death, Bagavathi finds solace in Guna’s dying promise to always be with him. Before long, the family learns that Priya is expecting Guna’s baby, and Bagavathi vows to protect this child, whom he sees as his brother’s reincarnation. As Easwarapandiyan hatches a scheme to have the unborn child killed, Bagavathi becomes a fierce maternal guardian with assistance from Ganga, Anjali, and a comedic Vadivelu. From tea seller to sanguinary gangster, he overcomes repeated adversity for the love of Priya and the soon-to-be-born baby. It is not until the masterful climax when Bagavathi comes through with his vow by guaranteeing not only the child’s birth but vengeance for his brother’s death, that justice truly comes full circle.
