“Beast" is a 2022 Indian Tamil-language action comedy film written and directed by Nelson Dilipkumar. It was produced by Sun Pictures, featuring Vijay as a retired RAW agent who has to face his past and outwit terrorists in order to rescue hostages who are barricaded inside a shopping mall.
The film is about Veera Raghavan ( played by Vijay), a genius but emotionally traumatized RAW agent who resigns from the agency after a traumatic operation in Pakistan results in the death of a young girl. Guilt-ridden and suffering from PTSD, Veera lives a reclusive life in Chennai. With the assistance of his love interest Preethi (played by Pooja Hegde), he gets employed in a private security company named Dominic & Soldiers to attempt to leave his past behind.
Events take a sinister turn when a group of terrorists take over the East Coast Mall, where Veera is on duty. The group is led by Umar Saif, brother of a terrorist Veera had once apprehended. The group insists on the release of Umar Farooq from prison. Amidst the chaos within the mall, Veera's instincts take over. With assistance from government officer Althaf Hussain, Veera starts on a mission to take out the terrorists and rescue the hostages on her own.
He outsmarts the attackers cleverly by employing disguises, hand combat, and strategic moves. But government betrayal and the terrorists' intelligent methods lead Veera to make bold, risky choices. Veera ends up overpowering Saif, saving the hostages, and delivering justice.
“Beast” blends high-octane action, comedy, and emotional content. Vijay performs well, conveying charm and aggression. The movie is an entertaining ride with smooth visuals, interesting stunts, and a happy-go-lucky supporting cast. Even the predictable plot does not matter, as Beast is a quick-paced entertainer with trendy action, crisp dialogues, and a hero who provides thrills with confidence.
