Bun Butter Jam

Under the direction of Raghav Mirdath, Bun Butter Jam (2025) is a romantic comedy drama. It features Raju Jeyamohan, Aadhiya Prasad, Bhavya Trikha, Saranya Ponvannan and Devadarshini. The film is about Chandru and Madhumitha, lifelong friends whose mothers try to set them up, but their own hearts lead them on a different journey. Through laughter, confusion and honest emotions. They discover what love truly means beyond family expectations.

Chandru and Madhumitha have always been best friends, their mothers secretly hope that they will fall in love and marry. They think it's the ideal match, so they devise amusing schemes to get them closer. However, things don't work out as expected. Madhumitha has feelings for someone else, but Chandru likes Nandhini, a well-known Instagram influencer. Their friend Saravanan, meanwhile, secretly loves Madhumitha but is too shy to express it. Chandru and Madhumitha become perplexed and irritated as the mothers put more pressure on them.

Through small arguments, miscommunications and laughter, the two start to realise how they really feel about one another. They learn that being honest with oneself and those around you is more important for love than what other people want for you. In the end, Chandru and Madhumitha realise that they are only together because of their mutual love and not because their families have arranged it. At the end of the film, everyone has learnt to understand each other's feelings, and the intricate, beautiful ways in which love can be formed.

Bun Butter Jam is simply a warm embrace, perfect for expressing true feelings, experiencing awkward situations, and having fun lit up by the incessant laughter. It is a love letter to the gentle but sometimes overbearing ways in which the families go about their lessons, while it also captures the amusing confusion of the emergence of new friendships. The film softly and kindly teaches us that love is the state of being, that it is often found in the most unexpected, and very muddled places, rather than a course of action to be executed.
