Citylights (2014)

Deepak Singh, played by Rajkummar Rao runs a small clothes store, which isn’t doing well and is thus inflicted with despair and poverty. He is unable to pay off the debt attached to his store and is desperate to find a means of income soon. His wife Rakhi, played by Patralekha is supportive of him and along with their daughter Mahi they go to Mumbai in search of better prospects. While there, Deepak gets coned by two men who sell him a flat for Rs 10000 but vanish with the money without providing any documents. With no proof or details to give, the police refuse to file and FIR and they left in the lurch once again. Rakhi meets a bar dancer who offers a temporary unconstructed flat to stay in while her husband finds another job and place. She offers her the job of dancing in the bar for the time being to make some money. Deepak later lands a job as a driver with a security bureau. The senior is however, corrupt and blackmails him to do illegal jobs for him. At one of their heists, the senior gets killed and Deepak manages to send off his wife and daughter back to their village for good. Citylights is directed by Hansal Mehta and produced by Mukesh Bhatt. The screenplay is by Ritesh Shah and cinematography by Dev Agarwal. The music is composed by Jeet Gannguli.
