Directed by S. P. Muthuraman, "Enakkul Oruvan" is a 1984 musical thriller. It stars Kamal Haasan, Sripriya, Shobana and Sathyaraj. The movie is about Madan, a disco dancer who falls in love with Kalpana, a classical dancer. When he starts having horrific visions, a quest takes him to a ghostly history that alters his life.

Madan, a dream boy, falls for Kalpana, a youngster who pans his performances. Though he tries to woo her, he’s unsuccessful. One night, he returns to Kalpana’s home wearing a mask, causing her to believe he is a thief. Madan, who is the son of pickle businessman Ooruga Ulaganathan, saves him and discovers that the cause is Madan’s love for Kalpana. They marry and live in Darjeeling, where he is comfortable. Madan then meets Devi, the woman he has hopelessly loved, and they tell the story of their marriage. Upendra, a Nepali businessman, offers Devi’s hand in marriage to but her uncle Rajadurai refuses.

Following Upendra’s death, Madan says that he was murdered by Rajadurai, who shoved him from a cable car. Devi’s mother, who is taken aback by the news, thinks her son is coming home and is content. Madan vows to return all the property they have lost, but Rajadurai kills her mother. Madan completes the ritual as her son, sensing that all the sheer illusions and emotions are his reincarnation of Upendra. Rajadurai drops from the cable car and dies, and Devi recovers all the lost property. Devi, who knows Madan is her reborn husband, sympathises momentarily, but brings Kalpana together with him.

"Enakkul Oruvan" is a fantastic mash-up of tunes, feelings and suspense. It is a remarkable film, noteworthy for its novel plot, provocative explorations of self and recollection and visually seductive scenes. With its haunting mood and emotional resonance, it maintains our interest along the way. The music is so perfectly integrated with the story, and it’s powerful and leaves you in the base.
