“Jana” (2004) is an action film by Shaji Kailas. Starring Akith Kumar, Siddique, and Sneha. Jana always stands for his villagers against Veerapandi’s atrocities. Manimegalai, Veerapandi’s daughter, falls in love with him but is shocked when she learns about his past.
Janarthanan, or Jana as he is known, enjoys a simple life in a Tamil Nadu village, where he shields the beautiful tobacco women from the cruel Veerapandi and his henchmen. His fearless stand for justice earns him the admiration of the villagers and the love of Manimegalai, Veerapandi's daughter. However, When she discovers that Jana is not who he appears to be, she is shocked.
Jana’s dark past comes to light when he runs into Viswanathan Bhandari, a formidable foe from his previous life, who vows to destroy him. Once a vigilante in Mumbai, trained in computer science, Jana had shut down a smuggling operation that was already run by Bhandari’s brother, eventually killing him. In revenge, Bhandari slaughtered Jana’s entire family except for his father and uncle, who were executed later. With vengeance burning on both sides, Jana confronts his enemies in a final showdown, eliminating Bhandari and Veerapandi to bring justice full circle.
“Jana” provides a run-of-the-mill, but still rousing, action-filled revenge-is-sweet adventure, though. Ajith Kumar is the film’s biggest asset, and he highly impresses with a dual-layered performance as a calm villager and a ferocious vigilante. Formulaic in places, the film still manages to fascinate with engaging performances across the board, beautifully choreographed fight scenes, and an appropriately bloody revenge-fuelled conclusion.
