Chandrashekhar (Shekar) essayed by Shammi Kapoor is born in an aristocratic family lead by Shekhar’s dominating, overpowering and status conscious mother Lalita Pawar.  An absolutely no nonsense woman she is that laughing or joking was considered as a taboo in the house. Shekhar has a sister Mala (Shashikala) who falls in love with Jeevan (Anoop Kumar) who works in their company. The mother is enraged and wants their love relationship to break and therefore advises Shekhar to take his sister to some distant place to help her forget the man she Is in love with.. The siblings go to Kashmir.  There he meets the charming and pretty Rajkumari ( Saira Banu) a fun lovely , charming and vivacious daughter of the local doctor.  Shekhar is attracted to her for her simplicity and her bubbly nature.  But he remembers his mother’s words who wants her children to marry only in an aristocratic family. However after a few expected reactions from his mother,  love triumphs over and both Mala and Shekhar re-unite and marry their choice.   The aristocratic mother Lalita Pawar forgives and hole heartedly welcomes and accepts  Mala’s husband Jeevan as well as Rajkumari as her daughter-in-law.
