“Kanni Maadam” is a 2020 Tamil-language romantic drama film, which marks the directorial debut of Bose Venkat. The film stars Sriram Karthik, Chaya Devi, and Vishnu, and the supporting roles were played by Aadukalam Murugadoss. The story revolves around Anbu and Malar, a couple from Madurai with strong opposition faced from Anbu's family at their marriage and, in some desperation, leave for Chennai; determined to take on the good life, they settle within the bustling streets of Chennai gradually becoming accustomed. Things really begin to stand in their ways when one tragic accident blows all happiness from their lives.
Malar is utterly devastated when Anbu dies, and she grieves the loss of her loved one, not being able to move forward. But she soon realizes that there's a new chapter in her life: she is pregnant with Anbu's child. This realization gives her strength to face the harsh realities of life; still, living through it is not going to be easy.
When Malar is attempting to reconstruct her life, there are two sweet auto-rickshaw drivers in her locality near her house- Shankar and Sreeram, who support her by being emotionally as well as financially strong, to fight against all the social stigma, financial struggles, and emotional trauma.
Kanni Maadam is a tale of love, loss, and resilience as it unfolds the burden of a woman abandoned by society after losing her husband. It focuses on some aspects like friendship, survival, and the importance of human compassion.
