Mannan (1992), directed by P. Vasu, is an action romantic drama, features Rajinikanth, Vijayashanti and Khushboo. This movie is a Kannada film, Anuraga Aralithu remake of 1986. The movie follows Krishnan and his boss, Shanti, an absolutist, tyrannical, often challenged matriarch, who always gets her way. Feeling spurned and vindictive, she uses his bedridden mother to blackmail and coerce him, and marries him to exert power over him.

Shanthi Devi, Chairman and CEO of Devi Industries, Madras, India’s Top Young Industrialist. She is shown living her life with her father, Viswanathan, and with her maid, Kannamma, from whom she lost her mother 20 years earlier. The film follows widowed mechanic Krishnan, played by the warm-hearted and lovable Fahadh Faasil, who returns to Madras from Dubai to take care of his sick mother. After receiving a tip that he should go and meet a famous businessman, Krishnan is instead set upon by thugs who brutally beat him. Krishnan soon gets hired on as a Senior mechanic, after toiling under a female, as the matron who runs his boarding house is named, by Shanthi Devi.

Krishnan makes friends with Meena, Shanthi Devi’s secretary, and gradually, Meena falls in love with him. Meena eventually marries him, and Shanthi Devi intends to marry her son off as revenge for Krishnan. Krishnan remains a union leader and Shanthi Devi wins a company policy change. It comes as part of an indefinite hunger strike. Viswanathan, the chairperson, assumes office, and Shanthi Devi razes her home to the ground. After Krishnan kills her rival Sathish, saving her, she decides to become a housewife.

Mannan is an action-packed romance workplace drama that explores power, pride, and the redemptive power of personal metamorphosis. From its high-stakes verbal showdowns to its emotionally riveting arcs, the film is all volume, spectacle and heart. Even when the story drags, thanks to some innovative music choices, clever dramatic tension, and notable performances, it’s the characters that help lift the narrative, making it a truly delightful watch. By threading its commercial appeal with emotional depth, “Mannan” lingers as one of the year’s most exciting pieces of art through its brash confrontations and moving resolution.
