“Raayan” is an action crime thriller Tamil film written and directed by Dhanush and produced by Kalanithi Maran for Sun Pictures. The movie features Dhanush, Dushara Vijayan, S.J. Suryah, Sundeep Kishan, and Kalidas Jayaram in a tale of family, friendship, and survival in the context of crime and betrayal.
Three brothers and a sister run away from their village and live in the city in the hopes of a better future. They take refuge under “Sekar” (Selvaraghavan), a repairman in a vegetable stand, who brings them up as his own. Years go by, and the brothers have different personalities: “Manickam” (Kalidas Jayaram) is a righteous college-going young man, “Muthu” (Sundeep Kishan) is hot-headed and temperamental, and “Raayan” (Dhanush) is the elder brother, who plays the role of the family backbone. Their relationship is at its strongest when it comes to their sister, “Durga” (Dushara Vijayan), whom they desire to see get married happily.
Their quiet lives are, however, turned sinister when Raayan becomes involved in a gang war between two merciless crime barons, “Sethu” (S.J. Suryah) and “Durai” (Saravanan), who have had a long-term feud. Meanwhile, an “astute cop” (Prakash Raj) reaches town with a hidden agenda of manipulating both gangs so that he could bring about a bloodbath and seize control.
As the battle for power intensifies, “Raayan” must endure betrayals, protect his siblings, and fight to maintain his family's security. The film explores brotherhood, sacrifice, and survival at what price in a merciless world.
With pure action, emotional depth, and electrifying performances, Raayan offers a gripping story of family honor in a gritty crime world.
