"Sardar" is a 2022 Tamil spy action-thriller film directed by P. S. Mithran and written alongside M. R. Pon Parthiban, Roju, Bipin Ragu, and Geevee. Prince Pictures produced the film, which features Karthi in a thrilling dual role with Raashii Khanna and Rajisha Vijayan.
The film is based on "Vijay Prakash" (Karthi), a publicity-seeking police inspector who bears the ignominy of being the son of “Chandra Bose,” a retired RAW agent labelled as a traitor years ago. Vijay is haunted by the unknown past of his father, whose whole family was killed in shame. When a private enterprise headed by former NSA officer Rathore initiates the One India One Pipeline project to manage water supply nationwide, Vijay is tasked to probe it after a social activist named Sameera kills herself under mysterious circumstances for resisting the scheme.
As Vijay investigates further, he discovers a conspiracy of tainted water, stolen classified documents, and the real story about his father, codenamed Sardar, who has been jailed in Bangladesh for 32 years. When a secret letter finds its way to Sardar, he breaks out of prison, set on preventing Rathore and revealing the pipeline's risks.
Through flashbacks, Sardar's failed mission is disclosed: exposing a Chinese conspiracy to monopolise India's water network. Sardar finds out that Rathore has backstabbed him, branded him a traitor, and was behind the murder of his entire family. In the present, Sardar teams up with Vijay and a kid named Timmy to destroy the poisonous water pipeline at all costs.
Karthi's incredible dual role and the film's tight, well-paced narrative make "Sardar" an intense, emotionally complex thriller. By combining action, espionage, and social commentary, the film offers both excitement and a potent message. The stylish directing and outstanding acting of "Sardar" create an impression as a sophisticated and fascinating spy drama.
