Sathamindri Mutham Tha

“Sathamindri Mutham Tha” is a Tamil romantic thriller film directed by Rajdev and produced by Karthikeyan S under Celebright Productions. The film features Srikanth, Priyanka Thimmesh, and Hareesh Peradi and is based on love, betrayal, and revenge.

“Vignesh”, an engineer, enjoys a peaceful life with his wife “Sandhiya” in Chennai. The tranquility is disrupted when Sandhiya is murdered inside their apartment. Crushed and angry, Vignesh resolves to find those guilty of murdering his wife. In the background, upright inspector Edward is transferred to the case and starts off with his investigations.

As the plot unravels, Edward finds out that Raghu, the home minister Minnal Murugan's son, was responsible for killing Sandhiya. Raghu had fallen in love with her and, after being repeatedly spurned as she was married, committed a drastic and brutal act. When Vignesh discovers this, he assaults Raghu mercilessly in a fit of rage and stabs him several times, in a bid for justice.

The film begins as a decent thriller, with twists in the plot that assure us of an intriguing mystery. But when the story unfolds, the execution fails to live up to the great promise it started with. The script is superficial, and key plot twists become predictable rather than suspenseful. The transition from a suspenseful investigation to a revenge drama is rushed, with little room for emotional impact.

While Srikanth acts decently enough, the overall tale is too quiet to deliver the punch in a thriller. The film attempts to combine romance, mystery, and action, but the inconsistent speed belies the punch. While there is a good idea underlying it, “Sathamindri Mutham Tha” fails to maintain its suspense, so it is ultimately a thriller that doesn't get to its crescendo.
