Hari Kishan, a Telugu-speaking young man, arrives to Bombay to better his life and ends up living in the notorious slums of Kamathipura. Here he meets gangsters who operate under complete police protection, while the innocent pay a weekly "hafta" to both the police and the gangsters - just to live.
