“Spy” (2023) is an action thriller film written and produced by K. Rajashekhar Reddy and directed by Garry BH in his directorial debut, which stars Nikhil Siddhartha, Iswarya Menon, and Abhinav Gomatam.

The story revolves around RAW agent Jai Vardhan (Nikhil Siddhartha), who, along with his team of RAW agent “Kamal” (Abhinav Gomatam) and NIA officer “Vaishnavi” (Iswarya Menon), goes for a high-stakes mission. Jai is much more determined to know the real facts surrounding the killing of his elder brother, Subhash Vardhan, a RAW agent, along with his own self. With deeper probes by the duo, they are increasingly caught up in the deadly conspiracy hatched by an infamous terrorist, Khadir Khan, and a Pakistani scientist, Abdur Rahman. The design was for an attack so shattering that it would make the Indian image shiver at the global level. The movie shows more aggressive action with Jai and his team involving deadly encounters, betrayals, and some shocking revelations that test their loyalty and skilfulness. The movie attempts to portray intense action, espionage, and patriotism all at once but with such an ambitious storyline, it struggles to make its mark.

Upon its release on June 29, 2023, “Spy” received strongly negative reviews from critics as well as the public at large. The film was typically criticized as having a very poor script, a dull direction, and even worse delivery. The film strongly did not connect with audiences and reached one of the lowest points in Nikhil Siddhartha's career by becoming one of the biggest box office flops.

Although it failed at the box office, “Spy” is available on Amazon Prime Video. It is not an action thriller, but a good movie for those who like spy movies and quick missions.
