Celina Jaitly after 15-year hiatus is returning on the big screen with a powerful biopic based on the life of sister Nivedita, the devoted disciple of Swami Vivekananda.    The film is directed by acclaimed filmmaker Ram Kamal Mukherjee, the film marks one of the most significant chapters of Celina’s career in films. 


Celina calls the project a very spiritual and her personal experience which she says its like an answer to a calling, rather than simply playing the character, she wants to feel the character within herself too. She is all praises for the director Ram Kamal Mukherjee for his unique film’s narratives saying his filmmaking inspires actors to completely immerse themselves in the character they play. 


About the film Sister Nivedita 


Born as Margaret Noble in Ireland, she embraced her life in India as Sister Nivedita after she met Swami Vivekananda in London. She dedicated her life to education and women’s empowerment, her social service to humanity and building nation. Celina revealed that her connection with the iconic figure dates back to her childhood when she frequented Roy Villa in Darjeeling with her parents. Unknowingly the visits formed an emotional bond with the place where sister Nivedita had spent her final days. 


Reflecting on her own journey, after her return to India, Celina had spent 15 years in Europe and the film in many ways will connect to her roots, to her spirituality and her identity.  She expressed her admiration for Sister Nivedita for her unwavering devotion to India despite not being born here. Calling her life not an ordinary one setting examples of self service, courage and empowerment for the women. 


The film’s release date is yet to be announced while Celina Jaitly’s long awaited come back to the screen has garnered excitement among her eagerly waiting fans.  She is excited herself with her comeback with the biopic of Sister Nivedita and witness the transformative performance in the true and inspiring historical drama.
