Pragya Kapoor marked World Environment Day by giving a peek into the making of 'Azaad' and how they ensured to make it a zero-waste film shoot. She has delved into the making of the film's set and shared, ‘How can you make a film set more sustainable, and how can you make people more aware and more conscious about their choices? The backend team was really good and really attentive. They were making sure that everything goes for recycling and repurposing rather than to the landfills. I think that the team that really had to step up was the art department, following the vision of trying to make this film as sustainable as possible.’
Pragya’s Clear Vision
Expanding Pragya’s vision, a film team member noted her clear directive, ‘Let’s not do any wastage, and let’s not use materials that can harm the environment.’ Throughout the shoot, Azaad has made significant contributions. Eight hundred and forty kilograms of vegetable peels and food materials were fed to stray animals in Bhopal.
They distributed seven hundred and eighty-four kilograms of surplus food to the people residing in nearby villages and sent one thousand and five hundred kilograms of leftover food to a municipal composting plant in Bhopal. They also sent three thousand eight hundred and eighty-three kilograms of organic waste for composting in Jaipur.
They sent five hundred eighty-nine kilograms of recyclables to a recycling facility in Jaipur. They also saved forty-four thousand seven hundred eighty-four litres of water. Additionally, they reduced one thousand two hundred sixty-seven kilograms of CO2-eq emissions.
The project also conserved one thousand three hundred eighty-seven litres of energy, equivalent to petrol. They used some readily available raw materials such as stones, sand and grass. These can be naturally washed away. Pragya Kapoor, an avid environmentalist, is consistently working to improve the environment. She has raised sustainability and inspires others to follow.
