The real reason for Laapataa Ladies starrer Pratibha Ranta choosing the film ‘Accused’ is because she did not want a repeat kind of a role. Pratibha is working alongside co-star Konkona Sen Sharma in Accused.  She further stated a secure actor always makes sure the co-actor also feels safe. 

Laapataa Ladies by Kiran Rao was one of the most promising films and Pratibha Ranta was seen in a role of a lifetime that was stepping stone to a her cinematic journey in the film industry. After starring in Leela Bhansali’s period drama Heeramandi, on Netflix, Pratibha explored the gripping genre this time with Anubhuti Kashyap’s,  Netflix original film ‘Accused’. She said it wasn’t exactly a cake walk for her to get this new project as she was looking at a film that matched close to Laapataa Ladies in which she debuted and raised her standard as an actress. She also expressed she received so much of love for the role she had essayed in the film and was wondering if she would ever be able to achieve the same again in her upcoming films. 

Pratibha Ranta plays a very intense role in the film, Accused. 

Pratibha Ranta admits said she read a lot of scripts until she found the right one again with Anubhuti Kashyap’s Accused that came into her lap. She said it was silent on the sets and the shooting was so rare and she could feel herself in the space she had chose to be a part of. 

Pratibha Ranta plays one half of the lesbian couple in the film Accused.  She finds herself in a relationship tested after one of them faces accusation of sexual harassment at the workplace. Pratibha Ranta had to choose between this unconventional role and people were doubtful if she really wanted to do a film like this calling it a risk for her image that she had created for herself after Laapataa Ladies. But the actor was all set to give her best shot and be in the space where she was sure what she wanted and be different as an artist. She felt she did not want to herself and it felt right to take this up more as a challenge. 

The film Accused taps the complexities of human relationships. Its not easy to instantly believe that the person you love can do something wrong to you.  You don’t give up and give a benefit of doubt and work hard until the extreme end to keep the relationship going. 

Pratibha Ranta talks about her experience working with Konkona Sen Sharma

Sharing the screen space with a seasoned actress like Konkona Sen Sharma, who is renowned for making thoughtful choice of films and also known for portraying off beat character roles, it would only be a great experience for her to work alongside said Pratibha.    

Pratibha spoke about her experience working with Sharma stating she remembers being nervous to meet her but she gave her so much of space to be comfortable to be able to perform. After the pack up she would ask her to join her for a walk together and that helped to understand each other and the comfort which will be easily seen on the screen. 

After she is done with Anubhuti Kashyap’s Accused, Pratibha Ranta will have genre hop into Nikkhil Advani’s Amazon Prime Series, called, ‘The Revolutionaries’.
