Well known TV, film actor and athele Praveen Kumar Sobti passed away on Monday following a cardiac arrest. He was 74 and breathed his last at his home in New Delhi. A family member informed, “He had a chronic chest infection problem. At night, when he started feeling uneasy, we called the doctor at home. He passed away between 10-10.30 pm following a cardiac arrest.” 

 

Before achieving fame as an actor, Praveen was in the Border Security Force or BSF and then enjoyed a glorious sports career where he won medals at the Asian Games and the Commonwealth Games. The official Twitter handle of BSF paid their respects to Sobti writing, “Director General & All Ranks of BSF condole the untimely demise of Sh Praveen Kumar Sobti, former Deputy Commandant, Arjuna Awardee, two-time Olympian (1968 Mexico Games and 1972 Munich Games) & four-time Asian Games medallist (2 gold, 1 silver and 1 bronze).” He even competed in the 1968 and 1972 Olympics. 

 

The late Praveen Kumar Sobti got his break in Bollywood in the 1981 movie Raksha. He then went on to play the most iconic role of Bheem in the TV show Mahabharat. He also featured in the Amitabh Bachchan starrer Shahenshah, Aaj Ka Arjun, Sunny Deol starrer Ghayal and many more. He also played the role of Saboo in TV adaptation of Chacha Chaudhary. The actor is survived by his wife and daughter.
