The cinephiles have considered Sholay one of the greatest films of all time. This year, the film marks fifty years of its cinematic glory in Indian cinema.
Sholay’s Re-Release Update
A report by Bollywood Hungama states that, ‘There is a wide range of audience that hasn’t witnessed the cinematic brilliance of the film on the big screens. In the previous year, the Film Heritage Foundation had arranged a show of Sholay in the Regal Cinema, wherein they premiered the fifty-year-old film’s original print.'
As of now, the makers are actively trying to restore the film in a picture-perfect quality of 4 K. If it ages well, they will release the film with the original ending of Thakur(Sanjeev Kumar) killing Gabbar Singh (Amjad Khan) However, the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) asked director Ramesh Sippy to cut the ending. It forced him to reshoot the film’s climax, wherein Gabbar Singh gets arrested. Moreover, the filmmakers had released the original ending on DVD, but the audience will see it on the big screens for the first time if everything goes well.
