The WAVES 2025, World Audio Visual & Entertainment Summit proposed by the Prime Minister Narendra Modi was acclaimed as a transformative platform for the entertainment industry. Shah Rukh Khan, Deepika Padukone and Karan Johar attended during its opening day at the Jio World Centre in Mumbai.
Shah Rukh Khan expressed his gratitude for conceptualising this unique platform WAVES, emphasising on its potential which will strengthen the entertainment industry through our government synergy and support. Highlighting India as the global film shooting destination, he advocated for international collaborations to be a part of the country’s entertainment sector. He suggested India could be the next destination for international filmmakers to shoot their films. Khan emphasised making cinema more accessible in Tier-2 and Tier-3 cities by making it affordable on a single-screen theatre and making the films reach out to wider audience.
Filmmaker Karan Johar in a dynamic session titled ‘The Journey from Outsider to Ruler’, reflected on the journey of the film industry, dismissing the outsider-insider divide. He advised aspiring artists and film makers to treat the entertainment industry as a profession where hard work and passion being persistence are paramount for its success. He advised the newcomers to prioritize on their skills over image management in this social media era.
Actress Deepika Padukone shared Shah Rukh Khan’s sentiments and described WAVES as a great initiative to unite diverse media and entertainment platforms. WAVES will bring films, OTT, animation, AI and immersive technologies together which will operate better . Highlighting the potential of WAVES, she said its potential can be merged across the entertainment industry. Deepika also encouraged the newcomers to focus on the unique strengths to stand out in the industry.
Film-maker Karan Johar concluded by saying, we should celebrate India’s growing power. He is of the opinion that WAVES would eventually propel the nation’s entertainment, media and the nation’s cultural influence to the next level to a greater height in the coming years.
