Union Minister for Information and Broadcasting, L Murugan in his speech appealed to the community radios in the country stated that community radio plays a vital role in giving voice to every section of the society, especially in the rural and interior belts.


He emphasised the event primarily focused on the evolving role of the community radio for its cultural preservation and rural development. This was graced by Sanjay Jaju, Secretary of the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, Prithul Kumar the Joint Secretary and the Vice Chancellor of the Indian Institute of Communications, Anupama Bhatnagar and many other dignitaries who were present at this occasion.


During the event, awards were presented to the radio stations for their significant contribution towards Innovative Communication, Promotion of Local Culture and Sustainable Broadcasting Models.




Community Radio Celebrated for Preserving Culture and Empowering Rural Voices


Over the years, the community radios have done excellent work and have been honoured by recognition in various categories. The radio programs itself reflect the actual feelings of the community, whether it's art, literature or cuisine. 


Community Radio is an important tool to reach every corner of the country. To put in efforts to reach out to as many communities as possible and to take maximum advantage of technology for the future.  Murugan asserted on this subject that Radio is not just a source of information and entertainment, but also reflects the local culture, traditions and is a voice of the unheard. 


Various topics related to the Community Radio was discussed through the day at the WAVES conference for the development and the ways to empower further. Many from various universities of the country, representing the community radios participated in the seminar held.
