Jim Sarbh made his debut in the Bollywood films with an antagonist role in Neerja released in 2016 which was critically and a commercial biopic successful film. He had garnered positive reviews for his role and had won accolades with a nomination for Filmfare Award for Best Supporting Actor and the Screen Award. He further rose to prominence for playing again an antagonistic role in the period drama Padmaavat in 2018 and in the same year he had another negative role in the biopic Sanju. He has also been part of films such as Gunj in 2017, Gangubai Kathiawadi in 2022 and Mrs. Chatterjee vs Norway in 2023.
In 2022 Jim had essayed a role of Dr. Homi Bhabha in the series, Rocket Boys for which he had earned accolades which included to get nominated for Best Actor at the 51st International Emmy Awards.
Theatre Roles and Cinema
Jim Sarbh has in addition to his film career, appeared in theatre productions as well. Particularly in Mumbai he has attracted attention for his performance in the revival of Death of a Salesman in 2013, followed by Rajat Kapoor’s What’s Done is Done and with Kalki Koechlin in Living Room.
Jim Sarbh made his directorial debut in 2014 with Bull. He has done an extensive work in theatres. Sarbh was listed at the 30th under 30 list in 2015 in Forbes India.
While in Atlanta in 2009 he performed in plays such as The Show, The Breakup, Tennis in Nablus and Ice Glen. The last of the roles won him the award for Major Supporting Role in Metropolitan Atlanta Theatre Award. Sarbh then had moved back to Mumbai in 2012 and had begun acting in local theatre groups.
He performed as Happy Loman in Alyque Padamsee’s 2013 revival of Death of a Salesman that drew attention. Sarbh had continued to act in Mumbai based plays. Later he had made his directorial debut as a writer with the production Bull and Eat respectively in 2014.
After his debut in Neerja, he had two other releases in 2016 with Yashodhara and Daria Gai’s 3 and half Takes. He also worked in short films like Mama’s Boys by Akshat Verma and Like Summer Like Rain by Gouri Dutt.
He had two Bollywood releases in 2017. One was in the thriller A Death in the Gunj and the other was in a romantic film Raabta. The production was screened at the film festivals across Europe. He also played the role of Malik Kafur in Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s epic Padmaavat in 2018 starring alongside Shahid Kapoor, Deepika Padukone and Ranveer Singh.
In 2019, Jim had a role in the Netflix film House Arrest, followed by his featuring in Yeh Ballet on Netflix.
In 2020, Jim Sarbh had appeared in Taish by Bejoy Nambiar released on ZEE5 in October followed by Gangubai Kathiawadi in 2022 wherein he essayed the role of Amin Faizi. And in webseries Rockey Boys he played the role of Homi Bhabha and in Eternally Confused and Eager for Love he played the role of Wiz with a voiceover.
Jim Sarbh’s most recent and upcoming films include the Pan Indian release Kuberaa in 2025. In Bollywood, he was a part of the film Pune Highway in 2025 and got critically acclaimed in his role in Mrs. Chatterjee Vs Norway in 2023, Gangubai Khatiawadi in 2022 and in the web series called, Made In Heaven S2 in 2023.
His versatility showed in his various roles in the films and in theatre. His other project in Bollywood is Inspector Zende released in 2025.
