From then on in the same year 1994 her film Mohra was released and she got popular for her dance and song numbers which were always very with catchy tunes. However she got tangled with an affair with her co-star Akshay Kumar when she was all set to reign and to be the Superstar of the Bollywood but all her films flopped and her arch-rival Karisma Kapoor had gained popularity around the same time with some top films . By end of 1995 , Raveena Tandon’s career was at the end and she started reducing her presence in the films and did small roles. Her career revived in 1997 with the film Ziddi for which she gained back her success and popularity that remains till date. Between the year 1995 and 1996 she starred with Shahrukh Khan for their first film together in Zamaana Deewana which failed at the Box Office despite Shahrukh Khan being one of the top actors then. Apparently she stopped showing interest in the film career and also her engagement with Akshay Kumar during which time she went through lot of problems and she rejected a couple of roles offered to her from many lucrative and big budget film producers and directors which later went on to be the blockbusters and she lost her chance to become one of the superstars that she had worked up in beginning of her career. Between 1996 and 1999, she saw a few Box office success again with her films like Khiladiyon Ka Khiladi and Ziddi in 1997 both were hits and her first villain role in the film Dus but the film was again shelved after the director dead during the making of the film. Her decline in the film line started soon after as she refused offers in films like Dil to Pagal Hai in 1997 and Gupt in the same year and she decided to take the sabbatical at that time. She also left behind a superhit film Virasat in 1997 for which she was first approached before they signed in others heroines for the role. In 1998 she starred in eight releases Bade Miyan Chote Miyan with Amitbah Bachchan and Govinda which was the 2nd biggest hit of the year. She was again offered a role in Kuch Kuch Hota Hai which she refused and went on to be a biggest hit of 1998. Her other releases were Gharwali Baharwali , Vinashak, Pardesi Babu, and Aunty No. 1 which were all a failure at the boxoffice. In 1999, She acted in a Kannada film called the Upendra opposite to the actor Upendra which was a self titled film but lesser known in the Bollywood circles. Between 2000 and 2006 she had turned down many offers and had moved ahead in a different direction professionally. She went on to work with more of art films and realistic cinema like Shool in 1999 , Bulandi in 2000 and Aks in 2001 won her huge acclaim. She won many awards as well as the Filmfare Special Performance Award for her the film Aks. Her hard work and efforts in the industry paid off when she won the National Film Award for the Best Actress for her performance in Kalpana Lajmi’s Daman. A film on victim of Marital violence in which she plays a role of a battered wife from an abusive husband. She surprised the critics and her fans with her performance in this film and she received the much acclaim and appreciation for her work. In 2003 and 2004 she worked in the films like Satta and Dobara respectively but both had not much of box office success. Raveena in her short film career has delivered her best and has given the right touch to the characters she has played wherein her performance has been noticed in every film that she has acted. Her film Sandwich in 2006 got poor reviews . She tried her hand at the production of the films like Stumped in 2003 and Pehchaan in 2005 and neither of them got success. She went off the Bollywood scene for a long time and in 2015 she did her come back for her friend Anurag Kashyap’s magnum film Bombay Velvet playing a role of a sultry Jazz Singer. Her brief performance on the screen was critically acclaimed.
