Anthiveyilile Ponnu (1982) is a drama film by the director Radhakrishan. It features Lakshmi, Jagathy Sreekumar, Kamal Haasan and Kalpana. The film is about Maya, a rising actress, who falls for director Hari Das only to discover his manipulative side. As fame and love intersect, Maya has to fight for her own identity, or she will lose it for good.

Maya is a talented and young village girl who dreams of being an actress. One day, she is spotted by a popular filmmaker, Hari Das, and asked to play a role in his film. Maya works hard and quickly becomes popular. As they spend more time together, Maya and Hari's relationship develops, and she falls in love with him. However, Maya discovers that Hari is married. She is upset and decides she wants to leave the film industry, but Hari convinces her to stay, professing that he truly loves her.

In the course of time, Maya becomes aware that Hari controls her and utilises her gifts to benefit himself. She senses that she is trapped; she holds the image of someone who is famous, but she feels isolated and lonely. Maya becomes more and more popular and starts to take control of her own career and life. Milo discovers what it takes to break away from Hari's manipulation of her reality and is ultimately able to act outside of him. She sends Hari off into a life of loneliness and remorse as a result of the pain he caused her. In the end, Maya is a successful actress, not because of someone else, but through her own will and belief as an actress. She shows that true success can only happen after someone has stood up for themself and forged their own path.

Anthiveyilile Ponnu is an understated work with a profound examination of ambition, self-regard and emotional persistence. The film is so strong due to the layered storytelling, pacing, and emotional weight, but it is also a film about a layered inner journey of a woman negotiating fame during a love story. Together with the visuals and music, create a unified response to the personal conflicted spirit of the protagonist.
