Dhadak 2 is one of the upcoming movies of the romantic-drama genre. This new film’s story follows Neelesh, a lower-caste law student who faces persistent discrimination in college despite his academic excellence—so much so that he humorously adds his degree to his name: ‘Neelesh, BA LLB’
He connects with Vidhi, a classmate from a socially backed caste. What starts as university friends develops into a love based on shared dreams and sentiment. When Vidhi says to Neelesh, ‘Why do you push me away?’ he responds with a deep line: 'If you love me, then stay away...because to be together is not as easy as you consider.' Vidhi fights back: 'It's not as hard as you think'
Their relationship is soon assaulted by an onslaught of caste-based discrimination: subtle ridiculing and overt discrimination, within the college context and socially as well. Their love stands against not only familial expectations but deeply embedded cultural expectations.
Through the course of events, Neelesh’s family and institutional discrimination cause the conflict to grow until he and Vidhi must now endure significant adversity - socially and emotionally.
The plot structure is very similar to the Tamil film Pariyerum Perumal (2018), from which Dhadak 2 adapted, and focuses on caste oppression, dignity, and love as resistance.
Through their emotional turmoil and the pressures from the outside world, both characters reach the threshold of how much they are willing to sacrifice for love, and whether they will be able to transcend their families' will in a society that demands they remain apart.
