Gaurav, played by Shahrukh Khan is a middle class boy from Delhi, who is a die-hard fan of Bollywood star Aryan Khanna, played by Shahrukh Khan again. He has posters and pictures of Aryan all over his room and is obsessed with him. He takes part in a local contest impersonating, his favorite actor and surprisingly wins in first place. He is over the moon and on the advice of his mother decides to go to Mumbai to show the real Aryan his trophy.
On reaching outside Aryan’s house, Gaurav is disappointed as Aryan doesn’t even look at him in the crowd of the people. That evening he sees an interview of actor Sid Kapoor who bad mouths Aryan and this infuriates Gaurav. He goes into Sid’s vanity van and beats him and asks for an apology all while recording it. Aryan sees the video telecast and gets GAurav arrested, saying that this cant be his fan. Gaurav’s world collapses on seeing Aryan’s attitude towards him, he returns home saddened and burns all of Aryan’s memorabilia.
Gaurav tries to tarnish Aryan’s image many times. Once when he goes to a Billionaires daughter’s wedding and molests her impersonating Aryan and once at London Madame Tussaud’s museum by creating chaos among fans. Aryan finally goes to Delhi and meets Gaurav’s parents and talks to him and learns of his neighbor Neha who he has a crush on. During a talent show he confesses his love to Neha imitating himself as Gaurav. This angers Gaurav and he confronts Aryan who tells him to stop being like him. Eventually Gaurav tells Aryan how he has ruined his life and leaps to his death.
