Ghajini

"Ghajini" is an action thriller film by Sanjay Ramaswamy, a man afflicted with short-term memory loss as he pursues vengeance against the perpetrators who murdered his wife and love interest, Kalpana.

For Chitra, a medical student who becomes fascinated by Sanjay’s strange memory condition, the temptation to study him is too great to resist, even when she’s warned to stay away. Instead, she learns that her former husband Sanjay, once a wealthy businessman, is living with anterograde amnesia, forgetting everything he learns every 15 minutes. Through tattoos, notes, and photographs, Sanjay tracks down Lakshman, a human trafficker who killed his girlfriend Kalpana. Chitra learns through his diary that Sanjay had previously been in love with a model named Kalpana, a woman who went on to rescue girls from human trafficking. Her courageous action ultimately resulted in her murder at the hands of Lakshman, and Sanjay’s injuries sustained during the exchange created his forgetfulness condition. Chitra’s warning to Lakshman sets off a series of events that pits Sanjay, police, and Lakshman’s twin brother Ram against Lakshman. Though he’s lost every possible mnemonic device at this point, Sanjay gets his mojo back when someone refocuses him on the murder of Kalpana.

As the final confrontation approaches, Chitra is taken prisoner by aristocrats Lakshman and Ram, who threaten to kill her and her friends if Sanjay is not delivered to them. Together with Chitra’s support, Sanjay calls them out at her ladies' hostel. Despite being grievously wounded, Sanjay’s spirit is unbreakable as he continues to battle. When he remembers the tragic death of Kalpana, his rage becomes the catalyst for him creating the upper hand against not one but two brothers and ultimately killing them both, completing his story revenge mission.

“Ghajini” is a relentless sucker punch of a love story and action extravaganza, anchored by Suriya’s thunderous performance. When it comes to marrying amnesia to acts of vengeance, it’s director A. R. Murugadoss who spins the most exhilarating yarn, one that strikes such a vital balance between propulsive and poignant, always aiming for the heart as often as the head.
