It is a 1961 movie directed by Amarjeet, produced by Dev Anand for Navketan Films, though there was a little confusion between Vijay Anand and Amarjeet who was the actual director, starring, Dev Anand in a dual role along with Nanda and Sadhana as his love angle.

The film is set in Indore during the period of the second World War II. Anand (Dev Anand) who is a happy go lucky, unemployed man who is in love with a rich girl Meeta(Sadhana). She tells her father about him but he insults him as he has no job , Anand takes it personally and decides never to return till he makes money. On the way he sees a poster for an army training and enrols himself in it and leaves without telling Meeta, so she goes to his house and stays with his mother and looks after her. Anand gets posted in a war zone. At the camp meets with Major Varma (Dev anand) who is a replica of himself except that he has a moustache. They become good pals and share all their personal details. Ruma (Nanda) is the Major’s wife, unfortunately he goes missing during the war, who is presumed dead and a telegram is sent to the family.

Anand gets promoted and returns home and goes to meet Ruma who thinks it is her husband and hugs him and the mother thinks her son is back. Ruma is a heart patient so he does not want to hurt her so he stays on in place of Major Varma  .   Meeta sees him in the temple with Ruma and misunderstands.  At the end all is well and they reunite.
