Aditya, played by Shahid Kapoor is a rich business tycoon, but unhappy in his personal life. His girlfriend is marrying another man, while his business isn’t doing so well. Intimidated by all this he runs away from it all and randomly boards a train. There he meets Geet, played by Kareena Kapoor, who is an extrovert, talkative and full of life. She keeps asking him to say something about himself but he remains quiet. Fed up of her constant chatting, he gets off the train. Geet, who gets off to get water accidentally misses her train and runs into Aditya again. He asks her to leave him alone as he is already disturbed in his life to accommodate her. But she insists on dropping her home.

They reach her house in Bhatinda and Aditya meets her large Punjabi family. He begins to fall in love with Geet. Meanwhile her family thinks that Aditya and Geet are a couple but they keep denying it. They run away from home to meet Geet’s lover Anshuman in Manali. Aditya then bids her farewell and leaves. Nine months on Aditya is a changed man because of Geet, who has brought back positively in him. Her uncles one day contact him telling she hasn’t come home or contacted them. Aditya finds out that Anshuman rejected Geet in front of his family and told her to go away. He sees Geet working as a school teacher in Shimla and urges her to come with him. He asks her to vent her anger at Anshuman. Eventually Geet and Aditya fall in love and their families approve of their union.
