"Kinnaram" is a 1983 Malayalam comedy film directed by Sathyan Anthikkad. It stars Nedumudi Venu, Sukumaran and Poornima Jayaram. It traces the journey of two hopeful musicians in Chennai, Unni and Sethu, whose deep camaraderie is put to the test upon falling for the same girl. As they compete for her, fun soon turns to jealousy and rivalry, changing their lives in unexpected ways.

Unni and Sethu are two good friends residing in Madras. Their landlord, the music director Varma, constantly irks them but bails with cash when needed. One day, Unni gets a letter from his dad requesting him to welcome Radha, the daughter of a family friend, who is coming to the city for a job. When they encounter her at the station, Unni and Sethu fall for her hook, line, and sinker. They experiment with various means to ‘wow’ while she remains at the home of their generous and understanding friend, Mary. Radha loses a job because she’s late, and Sethu gets her another one through his boss, V.N. Das, who turns out to be secretly evil.

Over time, the two friends begin to fight increasingly, unable to express to Radha how they feel. Their friendship frays, and they even come to blows. Then, in a sudden twist, Radha presents them with a man called Balachandran and informs them that he is her fiancé. She welcomes them to her wedding. Shocked and embarrassed, Unni and Sethu realise how silly they were and become friends again. Just as life appears to be settling down, Sethu gets a letter about another girl coming. Both dash to the station once again, perhaps to make history repeat.

"Kinnaram" is a cute Malayalam comedy that effortlessly mixes laughs, heart and friendship. The film’s thing is its light, whimsical appeal and catchiness. It hits the right chord of the wonderfully messy spirit of adolescent romance. With pointed exchanges and iconic moments, it engages the audience all the while providing a lighthearted glimpse at friendship tried and true through curveballs. Its understated production values and conversational pace make it an easy watch even decades later.
