Uttam Chaudhary, played by Anupam Kher is a retired Hindi professor and a well respected one. As his age progresses, his health digresses.He is soon a victim of Dimentia. When someone places an ashtray on the picture of Gandhiji on the newspaper, it triggers a series of thoughts in Uttam. He believes he has killed Gandhiji. One night his daughter Trisha, played by Urmila Matondkar and son Karan find his room on fire. Worried for their father, they take him to a doctor, who says his condition will only get worse. He insists that he killed Gandhi by shooting him accidentally with a toy gun.

 

Trisha goes to meet Uttam’s brother who reveals that as kids, they used to play darts, by placing red water filled balloons on people’s pictures.One of the picture was of Gandhiji and Uttam broke the balloon, as a result his father hit him and said that he killed Gandhi but Uttam protested, “Maine Gandhi Ki Nahin Mara”. That left a deep impact on his mind. They take Uttam to another doctor whom Uttam tells that his house is a jail and his food is poisoned. The doctor eats the food to prove him wrong and a toy gun cannot kill anyone.

 

The movie is directed by Jahnu Barua and produced by AnupamKher. The music is composed by Bappi Lahiri and Bappa Lahiri. The cinematography is by Raaj Chakravarti.
