The explosive Punjabi action-drama Majhail is as extreme in its caricature of the Punjab criminal underworld, as it is of the Punjab state machinery generating this hotbed of rebellion, however, as it paints a gripping portrait of loyalty, power and chaotic redemption. Directed by Dheeraj Kedarnath Rattan, the film features Dev Kharoud as Baldev Batth, a no-nonsense fixer born and bred in the merciless land of Majha. Baldev, loyal to a fault and merciless in his retribution, is an enforcer for the region’s notorious crime lord Sher Singh Sandhu (Guggu Gill) who governs the area with a ruthless hand.

The plot thickens as Baldev is charged with maintaining order within a fractious partnership between opposing mafia clans. Peace can be a fragile dream. When an incorruptible new police chief is appointed to their district, a process of reaction begins: secrets come out, tiger’s betrayals print like ribbons in a blizzard, blood debts call to collect. Now, Baldev finds himself torn by his profound loyalty to Sher Singh and an intensifying awareness that the violence he perpetuates might be shredding the very community he once promised to defend.

Providing a welcome dose of emotional complexity is Roopi Gill as Basant Kaur, Baldev’s love interest, who pushes the older man to question his warped worldview and reckon with his past traumas. Just as Baldev confronts his conscience, an unexpected new enemy drives old enemies to settle the scor in a final showdown that can redeem his soul, or pull him eternally into the darkness.
