Operation Khukri

Operation Khukri is one of the upcoming movies of the drama genre. This new film’s story recounts the tense and heroic events of July 2000, when two hundred and thirty-three Indian Army peacekeepers became trapped in the dense jungles of Kailahun, Sierra Leone, amid a brutal civil war. They were deployed as part of the UNAMSIL mission. The soldiers, including troops from the 5/8 Gorkha Rifles and 14th Mechanised Infantry, found themselves besieged by the rebel Revolutionary United Front (RUF), cut off from food, water, and support for a harrowing seventy-five days. The film’s plot zeroes in on the relentless resilience and solidarity of these men, who refused to surrender despite overwhelming odds.

At the plot’s heart is the portrayal of then Company Commander Raj Pal Punia that is skillfully brought to life by Randeep Hooda, who evolves from a young officer into a battle-tested leader under extraordinary pressure. 

As global attention intensifies, Indian and UN forces orchestrate a daring rescue code-named ‘Khukri,’ involving complex jungle warfare, aerial insertions by Mi-8 and Chinook helicopters, and coordinated ground offensives led by special forces alongside mechanized infantry and airborne support. 

Amid high-stakes planning and fierce firefights, bravery and brotherhood shine brightest. With the help of some meticulously executed air assaults, stealth operations, and a brave breakout throughout the hostile territories, the mission culminates in a decisive victory; all besieged troops are safely evacuated with minimal casualties—a heroic feat lauded as one of the most successful UN peacekeeping rescues.
