Dwarka Anand, played by Amitabh Bachchan is a retired principal who lives with his son Akhilesh, played by Indraneil Sengupta and daughter-in-law Sumitra, played by Amrita Rao. Akhilesh gets killed in an accident, which is done on purpose by Sangram Singh, son of politician Balram Singh, played by Manoj Bajpai. He declares a compensation for his death but Sumitra isn’t able to receive even after submitting all required documents.

 

Dwarka tries to question the DM but in a fit of rage he slaps him and gets jailed for it. Akhilesh’s friend Manav, played by Ajay Devgn starts a protest and campaign with the help of Arjun Singh, played by Arjun Rampal and a reporter Yasmin, played by Kareena Kapoor. People from all walks of life and professions join in the protests and this puts pressure on the politicians and government and finally Dwarka is freed with the DM taking his complaint back.

 

Dwarka goes on hunger strike to clear all the pending claims of the people. A youth called Lal Bahadur even commits suicide supporting the protests and riots break out. On Balram’s orders Dwarka is shot to dies in Manav’s arms. Satyagraha is directed by Prakash Jha and produced by Ronnie Screwvala, Prakash Jha, Siddharth Roy Kapur. The music is composed by Salim-Sulaiman, Indian Ocean, Meet Bros and Aadesh Shrivastava.
