Sharaabi is directed by Prakash Mehra, produced by Satyendra Pal, starring Amitabh Bachchan, Jaya Prada, Om Prakash, Pran, Ranjeet, Deepak Parasher in pivotal roles. The film was released on 18th May 1984.

Amarnath Kapoor (Pran) is a multi- millionaire who has time only for his business and no time at all for his only son Vicky (Amitabh Bachchan). Munshi Phoolchand (Om Prakash) is a friend of Amarnath and a care taker and attendant for Vicky whom he loves like his own son. Due to negligence from his father he takes to alcohol. One day he sees a young boy Anwar (Deepak Parasher) who is an orphan, educates him without letting him know, later he grows up to become a police officer but is not aware who has educated him, Vicky is a nice person so helps a lot of people.

Vicky meets Meena (Jaya Prada) who is a dancer in a brothel, her father being blind, has an agent Natwar (Ranjeet) who is greedy for money. Vicky wants to marry her but Amarnath objects and promises to take him off his will. So, he leaves the house with Munshi phoolchand, after a few days’ dies. In the end Amarnath realises the value of his son and his own shortcomings as a father, and accepts Meena and takes them both home . The film ends on a happy note with Vicky and Amarnath forgiving each other.
