Babu Yogeswaran is the author and director of the action thriller Tamilarasan (2023). Vijay Antony stars in the title role, alongside Suresh Gopi, Sonu Sood, Ramya Nambeesan and Master Pranav Mohan. The film mixes action with emotional depth as it portrays a father's battle against corruption and a failing healthcare system to save his son, who is near death.

Inspector Tamilarasan (Vijay Antony), an upright police officer who values honesty and compassion above all. When his young son Prabhakar is found to have a serious heart condition and his entire world changes. While searching for a transplant, he discovers that the hospital is compromised and only accepts surgery during "emotional emergencies" for influential politicians and wealthy people. Through a series of requests, Tamilarasan is determined to get his son surgery through any means necessary, eventually resorting to taking the hospital staff hostage, Dr. Muruganantham (Suresh Gopi), alongside the cold-hearted Dr. Jagadish (Sonu Sood), and demanding that they perform surgery to save his son's life.

As tensions boil over, DCP Rana Pratap Singh (Sonu Sood), Tamilarasan's superior and rival, exploits the crisis to score some personal points. The whole situation descends into a host of standoffs across the city, and the failures of our healthcare system and moral decay of the healthcare system is exposed. Caught between his job as a policeman and father, Tamilarasan has to make decisions of conscience, love, and sacrifice and put the audience in a place where they consider how far they would go for family.

Tamilarasan is a sincere social thriller more than an action drama, it reflects real-world issues of medical negligence and greed. Vijay Antony delivers an intense performance, perfect against Ilaiyaraaja's moving music. While critics have received Tamilarasan with mixed reviews and scepticism about audience adherence to film, this film resonates strongly with audiences, especially those who prefer films with some moral message to go along with the drama. For the emotional storyline and the emotive subject matter of a parent's boundless love, it is worth viewing.
