“Vikram” is a 2022 action thriller film directed by Lokesh Kanagaraj, starring Kamal Haasan, Fahadh Faasil, Vijay Sethupathi, and Suriya. It is a spiritual sequel to the 1986 film and is the second in the Lokesh Cinematic Universe.
The narrative starts with “Amar” (Fahadh Faasil), the leader of a black ops team, probing a series of strange killings, among which are a top cop and an NCB officer. His attention turns to Karnan, an old man with a clandestine past, assumed to be just a commoner but with much more hidden beneath his surface. As Amar searches deeper, he realises that Karnan is actually Vikram, a mythical retired black ops leader thought to have been killed.
The killings are connected to “Sandhanam” (Vijay Sethupathi), a brutal drug lord who operates the syndicate ‘Vetti Vagaiyara’. Sandhanam is determined to get back lost drug containers owed to his boss, “Rolex” (Suriya), in return for political influence. As Amar learns the truth, he discovers that Vikram is killing those supporting the drug cartel to bring justice and a drug-free world. Vikram's crusade turns personal when Sandhanam murders Amar's wife and goes after Vikram's family.
A series of high-octane showdowns ensues, culminating in a gigantic confrontation at Chennai Port. Vikram kills Sandhanam and blows up the drug containers but loses valuable members of his former team in the process. Amar, moved by the destruction and corruption, chooses to ally himself with Vikram's mission.
“Vikram” is a stylish and intense action thriller brimming with twists, emotional resonance, and explosive action. Kamal Haasan is back with power, aided by stellar turns from Fahadh and Vijay Sethupathi. The movie combines action with strong plotting, laying out an expansive universe in its closing scenes. It's a must-see for gritty thriller and cinematic universe fans.
