Salim is a talented poet and architect living with his mother in Nizamuddin. He moves to Lucknow for the search of a lucrative job and gets hired by a well known company. There he meets his neighbor’s daughter Salma and both fall in love. When her widower dad finds out, he is not happy and asks her to stop seeing him. When she refuses to conform, he sells his house and decides to move to Pakistan. Salim is devastated at this and tries to stop Salma from going but her father assaults him. Meanwhile Salim’s mother asks him to marry Sahira and he does in retaliation. Salim now gets into the habit of drinking alcohol and visiting brothels. He is still in the hopes of meeting Salma and re- uniting with her but that never happens. Sahira however, tries her best to keep her husband happy and will not let go of him at any cost. The film is directed by Tinu Anand and produced by Bittu Anand and Naresh Malhotra. The star cast includes Rishi Kapoor, Asrani, Padmini Kolhapure, Deepti Naval, Iftekhar, Omprakash, Murad and Yogitabali.
