The veteran classical music singer and Padma Bhushan recipient Ustad Rashid Khan Ji has passed away at the age of 55. He was in a deadly battle with cancer for almost four years. Rashid Khan was one of the most celebrated singers of his generation. The singer took his last breath in Kolkata on January 9.

Rashid Khan was known as the 31st generation of Sangeet Samrat Mian Tansen. He was well-known for his unmatchable singing talent. His proficiency in the Vilambit Khayal' gayaki was at the heart of many Hindustani vocal classical music admired for more than three decades and will remain forever with his musical legacy.

Born in Badayun, Uttar Pradesh, Rashid Khan delivered his debut concert at the age of 11. He took his music lessons under the guidance of his grandparent, Inayat Hussain Khan. Only at the age of 14 with his talent like never seen before he became part of the ITC Sangeet Research Academy in Calcutta.
